Multi-Element Behavior Support (MEBS) Foundations and Applications of Positive Practices

Formerly Known as Positive Practices in Behavior Support or the IABA “4-Day” Training

For nearly 40 years, Positive Practices in Behavior Support, known to many simply as "the 4-Day", has brought the values, science, and practices of Multi-Element Behavior Support (MEBS) to practitioners. Our newly formatted 8-individual module training, MEBS: Foundations and Applications of Positive Practices carries that legacy forward, preserving the values, science, and practices at the heart of the original training while incorporating current research, contemporary best practices, and an expanded emphasis on person-centered, collaborative, and attuned support. The new format also enables participants to register for specific modules based on topic and focus areas of interest.

Grounded in the evidence-based science of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), MEBS takes a comprehensive, nonlinear approach to understanding behavior and developing effective support. Rather than relying on a single intervention or focusing narrowly on behavior reduction, participants learn to examine behavior in context, analyze function and meaning, improve environmental fit, teach meaningful skills, build prevention into everyday practice, respond safely and respectfully when behavioral escalation occurs, and support implementation with fidelity.

Available in Virtual-Live and On-Demand formats to support the schedules of our dynamic field, MEBS: Foundations and Applications of Positive Practices blends evidence-based science with real-world application, so you can build safer, more effective, and more fulfilling support environments for the people you serve.

What You Need to Know

The series is organized into eight 3-hour modules that move from values and Comprehensive Functional Assessment through the major elements of a Multi-Element Behavior Support plan and its successful implementation. Together, the modules provide a practical framework for moving from understanding behavior to designing, implementing, and evaluating comprehensive support, with the ultimate goal of meaningful, durable change and improved quality of life.

Participants begin with Module 1, which grounds the MEBS approach in the values and principles that guide practice. The remaining modules may then be taken individually according to professional interests and learning needs or completed as the full eight-module series.

Please note that modules 2 and 3 are bundled as they must be taken together.
